3.A plastic film cannister with cover containing 50 strike-anywhere matches.
This is a must to have with you. Also a 20 ft. clothes line.

4.A good compass and a plastic police type whistle + a pin-on compass.
And a quality GPS unit + 2 sets of spare batteries for it.

5.Two clear plastic kitchen bags and two oversize garbage bags.
Orange bags are better to be seen by rescuers.

6.A complete small first aid kit with Dristan tablets.

11.A quality lightweight knife with a 5 inch blade. Also always carry a good
pocket knife + a sharpening stone, and a bar of soap.

12.Insect repellent + a head net. Some safety pins and rubber bands.

13.Duct tape + 50 ft of cord rope. (More is better) 8 zip lock bags.

14.A quart size water canteen + some energy bars, about 10 of them.

15.Food for yourself. Not junk food. Some freeze dry food is preferred.

16.A backwoods, small 2 person tent with fly. A 6 inch notepad and pencils.

17.One rain outfit + jacket, and 4 pairs of socks, hat, 2 shirts + pants.

18.A signaling mirror. One small pair of binoculars, these are used a lot.

19.A folding camp saw. You will be using it for cutting fire wood.

27.A collapsible shovel and small hatchet would be good to have,
but this is up to you. It helps to bury food scraps because of Bears.

28.A can of pepper spray will keep an attacking Bear away from
you so long as you do not make the Bear think you are a threat to it.
Always walk away slowly at an angle, never make eye contact,
remember you are in the Bear's territory. [You must leave the area]

29.If you are gone for more than 5 days, you will need more clothing.
All of these items will fit into a good size 5 day back pack, smaller
items will fit into a fanny pack. A small radio is nice to have.
